Thème du Festival 2012 : SURPRISE

« SUPRISE ». n. f. Action par laquelle on surprend. Se défendre de la surprise des sens, des surprises de l’amour-propre. Il signifie aussi Etonnement, état de l’esprit qui est frappé par quelque chose d’inattendu. Je ne reviens pas de ma surprise. Eprouver une douce surprise. Ménager à quelqu’un une surprise agréable. Aller de surprise en surprise. Il se dit spécialement d’un Cadeau, d’un plaisir inattendu. Faire une surprise à quelqu’un.

Définition de l’Académie Française, 8^ème édition

La Surprise évoque la pluralité. Pluralité de sens, pluralité de situations, mais surtout pluralité de personnes. Pour que la surprise existe, il faut être à plusieurs et à minima deux, un pour offrir et un pour recevoir. La Surprise propose ainsi une action mise en œuvre par un désir de partage et une volonté d’ouverture vers un ailleurs, un inconnu qui nous surprend et nous enjoue. Les Architectures Vives seront en 2012 de véritables Surprises portant cette nécessaire interaction, transformant une architecture patrimoniale, figée, statique, immuable, en un espace dynamique, fluide, éphémère, volage et inventif. Tel est leur rôle, à la fois ouvrir de nouveaux espaces, de nouvelles sensations, permettre à des lieux quelque peu oubliés de renaître, mais également de s’offrir en tant que lieu de partage et de plaisir. Ainsi, l’écrin patrimonial ne sera pas uniquement l’écrin qui reçoit, et l’intervention contemporaine celle qui donne. La Surprise sera réciproque, l’un offrant et s’offrant simultanément à l’autre. La Surprise sera donc au cœur de cette nouvelle édition du Festival des Architectures Vives, qui cette année encore doit surprendre un public de plus en plus nombreux.  Le surprendre par le plaisir de la découverte, par l’émerveillement des lieux et des situations. L’inattendu prendra place pour que chacun éprouve une douce surprise. Et ce sera au travers du parcours dans la ville que chacun ira de Surprises en Surprises.

 

2 MODALITÉ DE SÉLECTION

La consultation est ouverte aux jeunes architectes et architectes-paysagistes. L’objectif est de promouvoir la jeune création architecturale.

Merci de préciser dans l’intitulé du mail « Candidature FAV 2012 Montpellier », et de ne pas envoyer de fichiers trop lourds ( 10 Mo maximum par candidature).

Constitution du dossier de candidature :

+ Présentation de l’équipe, ses membres, avec Curriculum Vitae de chaque membre

+ Références imagées de réalisations architecturales, installations, concours…

+ Note d’intention au regard du Festival des Architectures Vives de Montpellier et de la thématique Surprise. Cette note d’environ une page doit exprimer de quelle manière le candidat envisage son installation. Elle peut être accompagnée d’une image.

Un dossier présentant en détail le thème et les contraintes techniques liées à la conception d’une intervention (sol, exposition, visiteurs, proposition d’implantation …) sera adressé aux candidats sélectionnés. Les résultats de la sélection seront annoncés courant janvier 2012.

4 POUR LES DIX ÉQUIPES SÉLECTIONNÉES

Le Festival aura lieu du 13 au 17 juin 2012.

La date limite de remise des projets est fixée au 15 février 2012.

Une subvention de 1 000,00 € TTC sera allouée à chacun des 10 projets réalisés.

Un ouvrage de la 7^ème édition présentant les réalisations sera édité fin d’année 2012.

6 QUESTIONS TYPES

Faut t-il être architectes pour participer au FAV ?

Il faut posséder un diplôme d’architecture. Cela peut être un diplôme  DE ou un diplôme HMOP

Toutes les personnes dans l’équipe doivent être architectes ou suffit-il que l’un d’entre nous soit architecte ?

Il suffit qu’une personne de l’équipe soit diplômée.

Qu’est ce que la note d’intention ?

La note doit présenter comment vous comptez répondre au thème, cela doit  représenter une page. C’est les grandes lignes du projet que vous comptez développer et vous  pouvez  joindre aussi une image pour illustrer.

La subvention spécifiée de 1000 euros, comprend t-elle les honoraires des auteurs et les coûts de construction du projet?

Les 1000 € est le total pour tous. Cependant vous pouvez trouver vos propres sponsors.

Serait-il possible d’obtenir des photos de ces cours d’Hôtels Particuliers?

L’installation conçue doit elle s’adapter à toutes les cours ou faut-il en choisir une dès le départ ?

L’installation doit pouvoir s’adapter à différentes cours car elles seront attribué aux participants qu’au mois de février.

 

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FESTIVAL OF LIVELY ARCHITECTURES

On the occasion of the 7th FESTIVAL OF THE LIVELY ARCHITECTURES in MONTPELLIER, Champ Libre association sends a call for applications to realize 10 interventions.

The Festival is at the heart of Montpellier city; it will take place in the city centre more specifically in the courtyards of certain town house. At the same time it will be proposed a path to the visitors, kind of architectural discovery of the city heart.

So, Montpellier’s FAV objective is on one hand, to open to inhabitants, during the festival these symbolic places and on the other hand – thanks to creators teams intervention which will present a specific work to every place – to reveal an intimate relationship between contemporary architecture, installation and patrimonial site.

1 FESTIVAL PRESENTATION

The Lively Architectures

The Lively Architecture Festival wish answer to evolution of architectural practice which, joining all the domains related to its culture, does not any more hesitate to assert itself in its realizations. The Lively Architectures are short-lived and evolutionary by nature; they are every time punctual, registered in a short temporality and thoughts for a specific place.

Such an increased reality, they add, transform, reveal a forgotten space because they are invisible or in the contrary too much seen. Respectful of environment, they transfigure it in an inhabited environment where the past, the present to see even the future make only one. The Lively architectures create an environment where the imagination of each takes place. So, they have the sense of humor, as much as the humility. When we would like to freeze the architecture in the mirror of the big History and the Patrimony, the Lively Architectures prefer for their part, the privilege of the custom in the law of the author. They are copy left in their attitude and are sincerely delighted at any free and constructive reappropriation.

Refusing the unchanging, during the festival they questionize our usual environment. Addressing to a wide public, they proud a sensory adventure, offer a moved glance. They position them self as a revelator. The Lively architectures are object of desire, envy and simply wish to find the sense of the pleasure of the place, the city, to offer the sensitive and the tactile, to reposition the Man in the heart of the architecture.

For this 7th edition of the Festival of the Lively Architectures in Montpellier, chosen places are in adequacy with this historic city. One of its wealth is the presence in the heart of the city of numerous town houses. Today, Montpellier has got more than seventy. Number of these privates town houses and inner courtyards, are not open to the public. So, festival objective is double. On one hand open to the inhabitants these symbolic sites, make them discover hidden places from their own city. On the other hand, thanks to the intervention of the teams of creators presenting a specific work to every place, it is a question of revealing an intimate relationship between contemporary architecture and patrimonial site.

In their history the courtyards , half-private and half public spaces, have had very diverse functions as place of representation, distribution welcome ,but today the courtyard remain anused. Divested of any function, they appear as simple spaces crossed to join a private place. Forgotten, because inaccessible, or forgotten because inappropriate, these courtyard disappear little by little from a common knowledge, even from a collective imagination. They become real forgotten spaces and nevertheless possess an appropriate specificity, playing between shadow and light, offering a possibility of glorifying these places with few things. So, the contemporary architecture by game will reveal and will wake up sleepy sites.

Festival of the lively Architectures 2012

« SURPRISE” n.f. Action by which we surprise. Defend oneself from the surprise of senses, from the surprises of self-esteem. It also means Amazement, state of mind which is struck by something unexpected. I do not recover my surprise. Experience a sweet surprise. Arrange to someone a pleasant surprise. Go from surprise to surprise. It specially says about a Gift, an unexpected pleasure. To surprise someone.

Definition of the French Academy, 8th Edition

The surprise call to mind the plurality’s notion. Plurality of senses, situations, mainly plurality of people. To make the surprise exist, it has to be several people or two at least, one for offer and the other to receive. So the surprise proposes an action staging by a desire to share and a will of opening toward somewhere, a stranger who astonishes or delights us.

In 2012, the lively architectures will be real surprises supporting this necessary interaction, transforming a patrimonial architecture, motionless, static and unchanged to a dynamic space, fluid, ephemeral, evolutionary and creative space. That’s their role, to open up new space and new sensations, to allow forgotten places to reappear, also offering a sharing and pleasure space in the same time. So the patrimonial case won’t only be the receiver and the contemporary one, the supplier. The surprise will be mutual, giving and receiving both. The surprise will be definitely at the heart of the lively architectures’ new edition, which still has to astonish more and more spectators this year. Surprise them by the pleasure of discovery wonder places and situations. The unexpected will take place in order to occur a sweet experience to everyone.

Through this town path, everyone would go from surprises to surprises.

3          MODALITY SELECTION

Team selection on file: applications files have to reach at the latest on December 15th, 2011 at midnight, French time (GMT+1 / date of emission of mail being valid.)

Constitution of applications file:

+ Team presentation, members, with Curriculum vitae of every member

+ Full of imagery references of architectural realizations, installations, competition …

Thank you for specifying in the title of the e-mail “2012 FAV applications Montpellier”, and not to send too heavy files (maximum 10 Mo by application).

A file presenting in detail theme and technical constraints connected to the conception of an intervention (ground, exhibition, visitors, proposition of setting-up presence…) will be sent to the selected candidates. The results of the selection will be announced in the course of January.

5 FOR THE 10 TEAM SELECTED

The Festival will take place from 13th to 17th June 2012.

Delivery deadline of the projects is fixed in January 15th, 2012.

A 1 000, 00-€ TTC subsidy will be assigned to each of 10 realized projects.

A work of the 7th edition presenting the realizations will be published at the end of the year 2011.
